Expert Reviews is an independent review site dedicated to one simple goal: helping you decide whether a portable personal cooler is actually worth buying — starting with our in-depth look at the Qinux BreezaMax.

Who we are

We're a small, independent team of gadget enthusiasts who got tired of guessing which portable cooler was actually worth buying. Every summer the internet fills up with "miracle" mini air conditioners, all promising the same thing — so we do the digging, test the claims, and put our findings in plain, honest language, including the parts we don't like.

Our mission

Heat waves are getting longer and window units are expensive, heavy and a pain to install. The right personal cooler can make a real difference for a fraction of the cost. Our mission is to cut through the marketing noise and tell you honestly what a product can and can't do, so you can choose with confidence instead of scrolling through endless ads.

How we review

Every cooler we cover is judged on the same set of criteria:

• Noise level — how quiet it is on low, especially for sleeping and working.
• Portability & setup — weight, cord-free use and how quickly it's ready to go.
• Energy use & running cost — how little it adds to your electricity bill.
• Guarantee & peace of mind — the strength of the maker's satisfaction guarantee.

A note on cooling

The devices we feature are personal evaporative and bladeless coolers, not compressor-based air conditioners. They cool the space right around you rather than an entire room, and their performance depends on humidity, room size and placement. We're always clear about what these products can and can't do.
